Best Practice Advice

The rules and legislation that apply to the use of fork lift trucks are often difficult to find and difficult to understand. There can be conflicting ideas about best practice, which in any case may change as new equipment and aids to safety become available. One of the aims of the UK Material Handling Association is to make all of this more accessible to more people. Your starting point for a better understanding is right here:

  • For easy to read basic information on a range of topics look at the fact sheets
  • Get started on improving site safety straight away with our free introduction course, Safer Site Essentials.
  • UKMHA Members and Safe User Group Members have access to our range of Technical Bulletins, which offer detailed information and guidance on Best Practice.
  • For guidance on whether a fork lift truck adheres to EU regulations, see this collection of Compliance Guides.

If you need to broaden your search further then one of the sites listed in the links section may assist.

Watch Scott McGready, Chair of the UKMHA Safe Working Group explain why the association felt it was important that a new Safe Working Area Charter was launched and how it will protect mobile service engineers when they carry out maintenance and repair work during visits to their customers’ sites.
