Fork Truck Watchdog

What is Fork Truck Watchdog?

Fork Truck Watchdog is a member benefit, that is a nationwide Primary Authority Partnership between the UKMHA and trading standards, it’s a consumer rights initiative to help put an end to rogue companies, poor standards and practices.

If you think a business has broken the law or acted unfairly, you can report them to trading standards via the Fork Truck Watchdog initiative.

You should report a business if they sold you something:

  • Fake.
  • Unsafe or dangerous, such as a product or goods with a fault.
  • Not as described.
  • You didn’t want to purchase it, e.g. the seller pressurised you.

You can also use Fork Truck Watchdog to report a business, if:

  • They tried to stop you using your legal rights, e.g. they said you can’t return faulty goods.
  • They weren’t clear about the price or added on extra costs..
  • They didn’t carry out work properly, such as leaving your equipment in a dangerous state.

We urgently want to hear from you – and we’ll pursue the matter for you, completely free of charge.

How it works

Wherever UKMHA members are based in the UK, West Berkshire Trading Standards, with whom the UKMHA have formed the consumer rights Primary Authority Partnership with, will act impartially on your behalf.

If you have reported a criminal offence, such as goods or equipment being supplied in a dangerous condition or inaccurately described etc, your case will be forwarded to trading standards.  If they consider the complaint to be justified, they will mobilise nationally, identifying patterns of bad practice by the same supplier and taking action.

The complaint will then be taken up by your local authority (i.e. where the complaint was made) as well as the authority where the supplier is located.  Civil cases, those concerning contract disputes, will be held on file to identify whether a pattern emerges before action is taken.

If you file your criminal complaint anonymously, it will be recorded and checked against other complaints, to build a body of evidence.  However, it will not be acted upon, it is, effectively, the difference between wishing to register a complaint and wishing for action to be taken.

Unsure whether you have a legitimate complaint, contact us today.

This information is being accepted under the terms of the Primary Authority Partnership that West Berkshire District Council has with the UKMHA (ukmha.org.uk). Each submission made will be assessed and, where appropriate, we will liaise with the local trading standards service where the business is based. Unfortunately we are not able to become involved in individual contractual disputes.
