Online Presentation, Round Table and Discussion.

These events have become a cornerstone of the UKMHA member calendar, offering a dedicated space to explore the latest developments in the material handling sector. Alongside association updates, members can enjoy valuable networking opportunities and contribute to discussions that help shape the future direction of the association.

Following the Grenfell Tower Fire disaster in June 2017 The Building Safety Act was introduced in 2022. The act brought about and, as a direct response to the findings reported in the Hackitt Review, exposed severe systemic failings, ignorance, and a lack of accountability in the construction industry, leading directly to the creation of the Act.

The Act implements vital lessons and recommendations stemming from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, addressing gaps in how high-risk buildings are designed, constructed, and managed.

Whilst the Act was primarily intended to improve safety in high risk buildings it has implications for any type of construction including materials handling installations within our industry (rack structures, mezzanines, dock levellers etc).

On the 13th October, and in association with the BMHF, we are organising an online presentation and discussion, to highlight the safety considerations for businesses and individuals employing and with responsibility for construction projects. The event is intended to raise awareness, further, of the changes that have been made and ensure safety is of paramount concern and our overriding priority.

We extremely pleased to welcome Evan Sleeman, Associate Director – Health & Safety Services – Atkins Réalis who will present detailed information relative to this act.

The session will primarily focus on providing an overview of the legislative changes introduced by the Building Safety Act and the associated amendments to the Building Regulations, together with the implications for duty holders, including Designers and Principal Designers.

The session will start at 10am and last for approximately 90 minutes.

The session will be useful for Directors and Senior Managers with engineering bias and especially those from construction, installation or system design disciplines or those with roles designated to the wellbeing and safety of employees within these buildings or related workforces.

This session is open to all association member companies of the trade associations within the British Materials Handling Federation (BMHF) – ALEM, AMHSA, IPAF, SEMA and UKMHA.
