Lithium-Ion Traction Batteries

This course is designed for forklift engineers looking to enhance their knowledge of the practical applications of lithium-ion technology. This course has been developed in partnership with BMZ Innovation Group. It is suitable for engineers and technicians responsible for the installation and maintenance of electrically powered industrial trucks.

While the course introduces fundamental principles, its main focus is on practical skills including inspection, fault diagnosis, health and safety, and safe working practices that can be immediately applied in the work environment.

The course covers a wide variety of pertinent topics, including:

• Technical principles:
  • Battery theory
  • Types of lithium-ion batteries
  • The Battery Management System (BMS)
• Components and functionality:
  • Charging
  • Critical charge limits
  • BMS and battery parameters
• Health, safety and environmental considerations:
  • Risks when working on and around batteries
  • Fire hazards
  • First-aid measures
• Inspection and maintenance:
  • Battery health
  • Handling of lithium-ion batteries
  • Safe working procedures and use of appropriate PPE

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

• Understand the technical principles of lithium-ion batteries and their role in industrial truck technology.
• Identify the key components and functionality of lithium-ion batteries, chargers, and battery management systems.
• Recognise the health, safety, and environmental considerations associated with working on and around lithium-ion batteries.
• Comprehend the appropriate interventions and hazards associated with installation, operation, maintenance, repair and disposal of lithium-ion batteries and battery systems.

Duration: One day (split into four 90-minute sessions with breaks in between)
